Today, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), in collaboration with the Government of Barbados and other key stakeholders, launched a conference aimed at accelerating energy transition investments in the Caribbean.
The event, inaugurated by IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera and Barbados Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmond, gathers over 200 participants, including Caribbean SIDS Ministers, power utilities, private sector representatives, regional and international investors, project developers, and development partners.
“As we look towards COP28 and beyond, IRENA stands resolute in its commitment to working with Caribbean SIDS and partners to deliver transformative solutions for all small islands,” stated Mr. La Camera in his opening remarks. “Together, we can empower the region to fight the climate crisis, bolster economic growth and sustainable development and secure a better future for its citizens.”
“The IRENA-Caribbean Cooperation for Fostering Energy Transition Investments and Finance” conference, taking place from May 30 to June 1 under IRENA’s SIDS Lighthouses Initiative, is in partnership with the Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator, the Caribbean Development Bank and the Caribbean Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency.
